Winter Day Trips

Tired of zooming with friends and family? In the COVID era, it is important to find creative ways to keep our spirits up, while doing so safely.

Here are some safe suggestions of fun day-cation options your group will love!

One of the best outdoor day trips in the Chicago area is a trip down to Starved Rock State Park. Starved Rock has lots of hiking opportunities, but it has so much more than that. There are waterfalls, sandstone cliffs along the river, and rock formations that are millions of years old perfect for exploring safely outdoors.

For those wishing to explore architecture in a vibrant neighborhood, a day trip to Oak Park to stroll past Frank Lloyd Wright homes is an excellent option. Book a 1 hour walking tour and then enjoy lunch at one of the many local restaurants.

If ice skating with the backdrop of the City is more your style, Maggie Daley Park’s Ice Skating Ribbon is open and accepting reservations.  Capacity is limited to ensure safe social distancing is maintained so advance reservations are required.

A road trip to Woodstock is always in order for the town’s annual Groundhog Days festival, which tours several Woodstock filming sites from the 1993 Bill Murray classic Groundhog day. The festival is still on for 2021 in scaled back form from January 30 – February 2, with a handful of events on the calendar including a walking tour of filming sites, trivia, and, of course, the groundhog prognostication.

Grab your group and hit the slopes for a day filled of skiing or snow tubing at Wilmot! Reservations are required, but the mountain is open and just a short drive from Chicago.   Then head over to Ice Castles in Lake Geneva where you and friends can experience hundreds of thousands of icicles hand-placed by professional ice artists. The castles include breathtaking LED-lit sculptures, frozen thrones, ice-carved tunnels, slides, fountains and much more.

And finally for something a bit closer to home, there’s also never been a better time to explore and discover your own backyard.  As any Chicagoan knows, the real heart of the city lies within our diverse neighborhoods. From the laid-back residential enclave of Norwood Park to the cool historic sights of Bronzeville, we can take you and your group on a custom tour of Chicago.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You work with our team to select an affordable, customized tour package that fits your group’s size and budget.
  2. You get to pick your route and the number of stops you would like to make.  If you want to make additional stops, no problem! Just let us know in advance. Flexibility is key to a stress-free tradition!
  3. Our driver will take you and your group to your desired destinations throughout the area.
  4. You’ll be dropped off once the tour is complete.  It’s that simple.
